ZERO HOUSE
An experiment in net zero prefaB construction
2017 Sustainable Building & Design project
A lot of zeros add up to an amazing little house: zero net energy, zero carbon footprint, zero toxins, zero waste. Oh, and the whole building needed to be prefabricated and modular so it could be put up and taken down multiple times!
Working with partners at Ryerson University, we took their compact, energy-efficient design and made it fully modular, carbon-storing and healthy. Zero House was toured by thousands of people at the EDIT-DX show in Toronto who got to experience affordable, net zero design in person!
Prefabricated floor, wall and roof panels for fast, one-day assembly
Air-tight, efficient and powered to net zero performance by adhesive solar modules on the roof
Healthy, natural insulation, including straw bales, cellulose, wood fiber, cork and mycofoam
Mini-split heat pump and unique, ductless energy recovery ventilation system
Interior and exterior finishes are fully modular
